From a Family Recipe to a Kansas City Tradition: Niecie’s Since 1985

Every restaurant has a beginning. Ours starts with family, the recipes learned at home and a dream of sharing that food with Kansas City.

Denise “Niecie” Ward learned to cook from her mother. In 1985, she and her husband, Perry Ward, opened the first Niecie’s in a small storefront at 5932 Prospect Avenue. That first address is part of our history; today you will find us at 6441 Troost Avenue.

Food that brings us back to the table

Our motto, Good Food. Served Right., says what we want a meal at Niecie’s to feel like. It is the pleasure of sitting down to familiar food and taking time to enjoy it with people you care about.

For some guests, that means breakfast: Chicken & Waffles, a Pancake Breakfast or an omelet. For others, it is Baked Chicken with Dressing, Southern Fried Chicken or a comforting plate of meatloaf. And for those who save room, there is the happy decision between favorites such as Peach Cobbler, Sweet Potato Pie and Pound Cake.

More than 40 years of Kansas City memories

We are grateful for the neighbors who have made Niecie’s part of their everyday lives and celebrations. A quick meal, a family gathering, a holiday tradition or an evening of music all give us another reason to welcome people through the door.

That connection continues at First Friday Dinner & a Show, where live old-school favorites and dinner bring the community together. It continues when you introduce a friend to your favorite dish or bring the next generation to the table.
